Sara H. Wisegarver

June 20, 1911 — April 1, 2011

Sara H. Wisegarver of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Bedford, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011.  She was born June 20, 1911 in Saxton, daughter of the late Anson H. and Elthel (White) Hershberger.  She was married on Jan 12, 1939 in Monterey, Va to A. B.  “Barney” Wisegarver, who preceded her in death on November 21, 1989.

She is survived by a niece, Patricia L. Smith, wife of the late Jerry L Smith of Hollidaysburg, and two nephews,  Donald T. Hershberger and wife Wendy, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Donald H. Hershberger II, and wife Carolyn of Bedford, and a number of great nieces and nephews, and a dear friend Linda Lyon of Bedford.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; Donald H. Hershberger, husband of Ruth (Petrea) Hershberger of Bedford, who survives, and Thomas A Hershberger and wife Mary of Wolfsburg, and a great niece, Pamela Sue Smith.

Sara along with her husband lived at Bedford Cemetery where Barney was a caretaker for many years.  They also owned apartments along West Pitt Street where they later resided.

They loved sitting on the porch facing Pitt Street and talking with family and friends and watching parades and passersby.  She was especially fond of the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival, and utilized that time as a chance for a family reunion for all that could attend.

In later years, her sight deteriorated to the point of non-recognition, but she still loved her porch.  She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be held Monday, April 4, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Brady Plummer officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery.  Friends will be received Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers donations should be made on her behalf to Homewood at Martinsburg, 437 Givler Drive, Martinsburg, Pa, 16662. Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
