Samuel Lee Whetstone Sr., 83 of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his residence. He was born on November 25, 1932 in Bedford, a son of the late Harold and Gladys (Diehl) Whetstone. On June 21, 1952, in Bedford he married Katherine Diane (James) Whetstone who survives along with the following family: a son Samuel L. Whetstone Jr., and wife Cindy, of Mechanicsburg, a son Daniel R. Whetstone, and wife Giovina, of Lewisberry, a daughter Kathy Hindermyer and husband Charles, of Little River, SC, and a son Steven Whetstone and wife Maureen, of Hummelstown; eight grandchildren: Jason, Rose, Steven, Matthew, Anna Marie, Charles, Timothy and Andrea; five great-grandchildren: Eliana, Calliegh, Kynliegh, Quinn, and Charlee Belle; a brother Clyde Whetstone and wife Jean, of Manns Choice; four sisters: Florence Ritchey of New Enterprise, June Mountain, and husband Charles, of New Enterprise, Mary Ann Barger, of Texas, and Margaret Wachter, of New Enterprise; He was preceded in death by three brothers: David Whetstone, widow Bernadine surviving of Bedford, Edward, widow Wilma surviving of Chambersburg, and Harry Whetstone, widow Linda surviving of Bedford, and a sister, Mildred Harr, widower Richard, surviving of Osterburg.
Mr. Whetstone was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He retired as a truck driver working for Eastern Express, Jones Motor Co., and Carolina Freight. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Diane in their RV.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 12:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with the Rev. Raymond E. Short officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
