Ruth E. Shoap

Ruth E. Shoap, 89, of Bedford, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Homewood in Martinsburg.  She was born on April 3, 1923, in Shippensburg, a daughter, of the late Allen F. and Mabel (Faust) Killian.  On April 16, 1943 she married Richard N. Shoap who preceded her in death on April 3, 2002.  She is survived by the following family: a son, Richard Charles Shoap married the former Toni Rozzi of Henrietta, NY, two daughters Elizabeth Ann wife of James Uber of Harrisburg, Cynthia Kay wife of Richard Dougherty of Enola, and Janice Ames of Harrisburg, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Frank, Charles, Donald and Robert Killian; three sisters: Jean, Catherine, and Amy.

She was a member, taught Sunday school and was the youth director for a while at the St. John’s United Church of Christ. She also sang in the church and Homewood choirs.  She was a 1941 Graduate of Shippensburg High School, and worked as a chief telephone operator for the government, at the Pentagon Building.  She then retired after 19 ½ years as the Bedford Presbyterian Church Secretary. She and her husband enjoyed volunteering at the hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John’s United Christian Church with the Pastor Joseph Puleo and Rev. Gerald W. McCuller Jr. officiating.  Burial at Park Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on, Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.  Those wishing may make contributions to St. Johns Memorial Fund, 144 West John Street, Bedford, PA 15522.
