Ruth A. Mackey, 91, of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 19, 1921, in Bedford, a daughter of the late Michael F. and Susan I. (Sigler) Amick Fleck. In 1952, in, Winchester, VA, she married Glen E. Mackey who preceded her in death in 1959. She is survived by a son Randy M. Mackey married to the former Cyndie Grubb of Bedford; three grandsons Ryan Mackey married to the former Valerie Peck of Ducansville, Chad Mackey and Fiancée Stephanie Punchak of Johnstown, and Sean Mackey of Bedford; two brothers Michael Amick of Bedford, and Theodore Fleck of Roxbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Seth T. Mackey.
Ruth attended the Oakdale School in Bedford, and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked at Letter Kenny Army Depot during WWII, and later catered for the Coach Room Restaurant, and then worked at Old Bedford Village upon its opening. Recently she worked for the Pioneer Historical Society where she received the RSVP of the year award. She enjoyed bowling in leagues and playing yahtzee.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Raymond E. Short officiating.
