Ruth E. Heit, 88, of Bedford, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home. She was born on February 21, 1923, in Cleveland, OH, a daughter, of the late Michael and Mary (Suhay) Kormos. On November 3, 1945 in Bedford, she married George C. Heit Jr. who preceded her in death on April 23, 1973. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jeanne wife of Terry E. Wilt of Everett, a daughter, Kathleen wife of Samuel Beegle of New Holland, a son, George C. Heit III married to the former Barbara Harris of Cresson, a daughter, Susan wife of Stephen A. Bohn of Manns Choice, 11 grandchildren: Trevor E. Wilt, Ryan G. Wilt, Paul A. Beegle, Beth Ann Cook, Jason L. Beegle, Jamie C. Heit, Alexis A Heit, George C. Heit IV, Shane E. Bohn, Celeste E. Bohn, and Chad M. Bohn, 16 great grandchildren: Antonio, Simone, Nicholas, Dakota, Timothy, Logan, Jace, Jordan, Kylie, Gavin, George V, Alexis, Cody, Addison, Ella, & Gaige. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Albert, Michael, and Henry Kormos, two sisters: Marie Adams and Eleanore Mercurio.
She was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and retired in 1988 after 29 years with 1st National Bank in Bedford. She graduated from Shaw High School in Cleveland, OH, and then went on to become on of the 1st women to join the Marine Corps and served from 1943 to 1945. She enjoyed traveling and taking care of her family.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Richard Tomkosky Celebrant. Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Visitation will be private. Arrangements by Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
