Russell E. "Rusty" Fetter

August 1, 1957 — April 13, 2017

Russell E. “Rusty” Fetter, 59 of Belden, finished his courageous 16 month battle with colon cancer on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. Anyone who knew him knew he wasn't a quitter.  He fought cancer like a champ.  Some may say he lost this battle, but that is not true, he won the ultimate healing when he peacefully left this world and went to Heaven.  He was born on August 1, 1957 in Bedford, a son of the late Dale R. and Dorothy L. (Shaffer) Fetter.  He is survived by a son, Tyler Fetter, of Bedford; three sisters: Roberta Lorraine, wife of Richard Holt, of Nyack, NY, Debra K. “Deb” wife of Edward Snowden, of Collegeville, and Elizabeth “Beth” wife of Lynn Whetstone, of Bedford; two brothers: Dean L. Fetter married to the former Sandra M. Spade, of Everett, and Richard L. Fetter, and fiancée Judy Hillegas, of New Paris; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; extended family: Jim and Elaine Chamberlain, and their daughters, of Bedford, and a special friend Gloria King, of Bedford.  He was preceded in death by his faithful dog Diesel.

Rusty was a 1976 graduate of Bedford High School and was on the wrestling team, earning a District Title.  He then graduated from Underwater Welding and Construction School in California.  Rusty returned to Bedford and was an owner operator of his own truck from 1977 till 1996, and then started REF Trucking.  He enjoyed farming, Friday night races at Bedford Speedway, hunting deer and coyotes, watching Penn State wrestling, and looking for morel mushrooms in the spring.  He was a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, and attended Pennwood Bible Church.  Rusty was a very thoughtful and generous person, who always had a way of helping people in need.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at the Pennwood Bible Church, in Everett, with Rev. Steven Scruggs and Rev. Dan Oldham officiating.  Burial at St. Paul’s Reformed Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.  Those wishing may make contributions in Rusty’s name to the American Cancer Society that serves Bedford County, at 1004 N. Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
