Russell P. Penner, 91, formerly of Everett, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born on June 1, 1923, in Windber, a son of the late Bernard and Clara (Kelly) Penner. On September 9, 1950, in Winchester, VA, he married Lois F. (Satzinger) Penner, who preceded him in death on April 14, 2007. He is survived by a son, Robert B. Penner married to the former, Nancy Johnson of Bedford; four grandsons, and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Dianne L. Sponsler, widower, Greg, surviving of Everett, and infant, Susan J. Penner.
Mr. Penner was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Army. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 45 years. Until his marriage he worked construction, and then he and his wife owned and operated the Reynoldsdale Grocery Store from 1956 to 1961, Penner’s Corner Restaurant and Newstand, in Everett from 1961 to 1971, and the Breezewood Market for over 10 years. After moving to Ft. Meyers, FL, they also owned and operated the Tropical Palm Restaurant from 1985 until their retirement.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Robert B. Penner, officiating. Burial at Berkey Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
