Ruby Carol Hill of Bedford went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 17, 2011.  Carol was born in Tunas, Missouri and was the daughter of Hughie Lafayette and Carrie Evelyn (Morrow) Virgen.

Carol served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, where she met and married Robert William Hill, who preceded her in death.  As a SPAR in the U.S. Coast Guard, Carol was stationed at the Coast Guard Intelligence Office in New York City.

Carol graduated from Tunas High School.  She worked many years as a teacher, beginning in a one room school house in Missouri, and retiring from the Bedford School System, as the third grade teacher at the Harrison-Manns Choice Elementary.  She was a member of the National Education Association, and Pennsylvania State Education Association.  Carol enjoyed playing bridge and reading.

Carol was the last remaining member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings:  Raymond Virgen, Margaret Cora Ellen Griffith, Ora Virgen, Edna Virgen, Hughie Oren Virgen, Clifford Glenn Virgen, and Sally Fern Zabel.  In addition, Carol is survived by two children, Judy, husband of Matthew Hillegas, of Everett, and Jeffrey Hill and companion, Amanda O’Neal of McConnellsburg.  She is also survived by the following grandchildren: Matthew Hillegas, Jr., Steven Hill, Cara husband of Cordell Ebersole, Kristen and husband, Matthew Chase, Brian Hill, Stacey Hill, and Wyatt Hill, and the following great grandchildren; Xavier Maslowski, Paige Hillegas, Noelle Ebersole, Marissa Hillegas, Nadia Ebersole, and T.J. Chase.

As per Carol’s request, there will be no public viewing.  The funeral service in celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the Bedford Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Friant officiating.  Interment is at Bedford County Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National MS Society, Central Pennsylvania Chapter, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 104, Harrisburg, PA  17110.  Arrangements are by the Timothy A.
