Roy J. Stump

June 25, 1936 — February 27, 2011

Roy J. Stump, 74, of North Juliana Street, Bedford, died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Homewood at Martinsburg, due to Alzheimer’s disease.  He was born on June 25, 1936, in Johnstown, a son of the late George D. and Helen (Murray) Stump.  On December 26, 1964 in Bedford, he married Carol L. Hoover and she survives along with a daughter, Cindy L. wife of Ray Walsh of Erdenheim, one grandson Ryan Walsh, a brother, Dean Stump and wife Sylvia of Cockeysville, MD, two sisters, Sandra Thompson of Gainsville, VA, and Linda wife of Dennis Lehman of Reading.

He was a Pennsylvania State Trooper for 28 years retiring in January 1988.  He worked vice for 10 years and took part in the investigation of the Beachwood Inn and Breezewood Murders.  He was a member of Bedford American Legion Post #113, and was an avid softball player in his younger years.

Funeral Services:  Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Doug Friant officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park with Military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard and the Pennsylvania State Police.    Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
