Ronald J. Shaffer, 79, of Cumberland Road, Bedford, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013. He was born on September 17, 1933, in Bedford, a son of the late Roy and Margie (Scritchfield) Shaffer. On June 19, 1954, in Winchester, VA, he married Dolores Heming who survives along with the following family a daughter, Sandy wife of Dan Barnette of Given, WV, a son, Brian Shaffer married to the former Lisa Seifert of Bedford, a daughter, Julie wife of Steve Sprowls also of Bedford, 9 grandchildren: Ashley, Landon, Joe, Brook, Shaun, Steven, Troy, Cameron, and Nick, 3 great grandchildren: Joah, Jase, and Carson, a brother, Roy Shaffer Jr. and wife Dorothy, a sister, Norma wife of Ike Zembower, all of Bedford, and an aunt Dorothy Shaffer Anderson of Hollidaysburg.
Ronald was affiliated with the Bedford United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and worked as a self employed truck driver for over 25 years. He also owned Ron’s Saddle Shop and Valley Oak Furniture. He enjoyed selling his furniture at the fall foliage festivals and was an avid golfer and loved horses.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Bedford United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Welsch officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.
