Fishertown

Ronald D. Evans 90, of Fishertown, died Monday, October 2, 2023 at his residence.  He was born on February 14, 1933 in East St. Clair Township, a son of the late Calvin D. and Hazel (Mock) Evans.  He was formerly married to Evangeline Harvey Evans in January 1954. She proceeded him in death.  On February 14, 1998 in Winchester, VA he married Aldene (Davis) Kauffman Evans who survives along with four children: Jeff Evans and partner Vicki, of Fishertown, Ashley Evans and wife Erith, of Kailua, HI, Brock Evans and partner Pam, of Fishertown, and Yardlee Kauffman and husband David Johnson, of Philadelphia; grandchildren: Katie, Eva, Joshua, and Nicholas; two step-children: Chad Kauffman and wife Shana, of Schellsburg, and Brent Kauffman and wife Michele, of Everett; three step-grandchildren: Jackson, Madeline, and Colten; and a brother Dale Evans and wife Judy, of Clifton Park, NY.  He was preceded in death by two siblings: Doris Leonard, of Ohia and Cecil Evans, of Virginia.

Ronald graduated from Napier High School in 1952, and then served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954 as a Military Policeman with the 101st Airborne Division.  When he returned home, he was a bulldozer operator for Palmer Saylor Construction.  In 1956 he started his own company building custom homes, working until retirement in 2019. There are over 500 homes and structures across seven counties of Central Pennsylvania with the mark of his craftsmanship.  He held church memberships at Pine Grove United Methodist Church from 1933 to 1998, Bedford Bible Church from 1998 to 2016, and most recently Crossroads Bible Church.  Ronald was a member of several clubs including: Chestnut Ridge Lions Club, Bedford Gideons, Bedford Kiwanis, a 32nd Degree Mason at the Bedford Lodge #320 F&AM, Tall Cedars, and Bedford County Builders Association.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Fishertown Sewer Authority, Fishertown Water Authority, Bedford Rural Electric Cooperative, and Bethel Park Church Camp.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Mark Dillow officiating.  Burial at the Fishertown Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Thursday from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: South Central Blind Association, 202 S.
