Robert “Whitey” Howsare, 83 of Rainsburg, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. He was born November 15, 1926 in Friends Cove, son of the late William Albert and Beatrice (Brant) Howsare. He is survived by a daughter, Vickie Lee wife of Tim Easter of Bedford, three granddaughters; Katelyn, Amber and Melissa Easter, a brother Earl Howsare and wife Margaret of Everett and a sister Betty Mehaffey of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Tom, Dewey, William Harold and Carl Howsare, six sisters; Melissa McElfesh, Carrie Leasure, Gladys Bozych, Ada Morgan, Nellie Ryan and Ethel Carbaugh.
Mr. Howsare had attended the former Rainsburg United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #0113, and the Bedford County Sportsman’s Club. He served on the Rainsburg Borough Council and the Bedford Historical Society, and was a World War II Army Veteran who had served in the Pacific Theater. He especially enjoyed first and foremost being a good Grandfather. He also enjoyed hunting for that big buck, fishing, bird watching, flowers, gardening, genealogy, family reunions, pirate baseball, steeler football, home improvements and his Ford truck.
Funeral Services: Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Wesley Howsare officiating. Burial at Woods Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
