Robert J. Swindell, 94, of Bedford, died on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Victoria House at Spring House Estates. He was born on September 2, 1929 in Everett, a son of the late Charles A. and Mary (Miller) Swindell. On July 14, 1956 in Johnstown he married Doris J. (Henry) Swindell who preceded him in death on February 21, 2013. He is survived by three daughters: Susan Burkhart of Painesville, OH; Lisa Frisch and husband Steven of Truckee, CA, Mary Beth Olivier and husband Bryan of Durham, NH; one son Kent Swindell married to the former Betsy Growden of Centerville; nine grandchildren:  Alison Burkhart, Andrea Burkhart, Jared Growden, Jonathan, Kyle, and Seth Swindell, Christopher, Laura and Emily Olivier; and six great-grandchildren:  Madison, Christian, and Loralie Growden, Cohen, Arvella, and Griffin Reardon; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three sisters Evelyn Diehl, Mildred Carper, and Edna Diehl; four brothers:  Elza, Roy, Paul, and J. Duane Swindell; and three infant brothers.

Robert was a member of the Bedford Alliance Church. He served with the U.S. Air Force during Korea,  and retired in 1987 after teaching for 26 years as an elementary school teacher. He taught at North Elementary, Snake Spring, and finished up at Colerain.  He was a member of the PSEA, NEA, and Gideons.  He helped establish child evangelism fellowship in this area. In his lifetime he donated over 32 gallons of blood and over 100 platelet units.  Bob enjoyed doing leatherwork in his spare time, gardening, hunting and fishing.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford Alliance Church with Pastor Issac Stuart officiating.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in Robert’s name to the Gideons International, P.O.
