Robert S. "Rob" Custer

Robert S. “Rob” Custer, 55, of Bedford, died on Friday, November 14, 2025 at his residence. He was born on September 11, 1970 in Berwick, son of the late Robert E. Custer and Judy (Houseworth) Custer of Bedford. He is survived by his mother, Judy; his two sons: Silas and Levi Custer, both of Bedford; a step-son: Caleb Carter of SC; and two sisters: Gretchen Custer of Sicklerville, NJ, and Heidi Custer of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Meairl C. and Naomi G. Houseworth; and his paternal grandparents: Howard S. and Berthe Custer.

Robert graduated high school in 1988, then attended State College and worked on a horse farm. Shortly after school he pursued a life as a business owner. He established Goodness Grows Landscaping and was a certified organic farmer offering high quality produce through CSA and many farmer’s markets. He obtained his Maryland Master Gardener Certification in 2013. He was also well known for his landscaping jobs and for planting hundreds of trees throughout the county, including at the Bedford Elks and the Bedford County Courthouse. He loved nature, his farm, flowers, Volkswagens, motorcycles, guns, and the band Grateful Dead.

Rob battled advanced prostate cancer that was not caught before it became metastatic and spread to his bones. He endeavored to raise awareness of the importance of getting screened as early as age 45 and often. So please remind all the loved men in your life to get checked.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Providence Lutheran Church, 5274 Bedford Valley Road, Bedford, PA, 15522 with a fellowship celebration of life lunch and gathering immediately following at the Houseworth Lodge on O’Shea Road.
