Robert "Bob" Harclerode

Robert J. “Bob” Harclerode, 72, of Bedford died on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on May 18, 1947, in Bedford, a son of the late John F. and Mary Janet (Morgart) Harclerode. On February 14, 1970, in Bedford, he married Connie (Leister) Harclerode who survives along with a daughter, Julie L. Showalter and husband Chad of Schellsburg; twin grandsons:  Bryce D., and Evan J. Showalter; two sisters, Dorothy widow of Frederick Feather and Fred Egolf of Bedford, Janet Cessna and husband Cecil of Chambersburg; one brother, James F. Harclerode and wife Bonnie of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne M. Harclerode and one brother-in-law, Thomas Leister.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford. He graduated from Bedford High School Class of 1965.  He served his military duty as a SPC 5 in the Army Signal Corp from 1966 – 1968. His was stationed at Fort Ritchey, MD during the Vietnam conflict.  Part of his duty included military police assignments. His work career started at the Sunoco gas stations at the Bedford and Breezewood interchanges. Following his military duty he started working for Blackburn and Russell for nine years while venturing into his own business in 1972.  C&C Cycle Sales and Service started out as a motorcycle sales and repair shop that developed into an outdoor power equipment business.  He enjoyed his customers and the challenges of working on their equipment. He was a lifetime NRA patron member and lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association - AMA and the Bedford County Motorcycle Club where he served as referee at the Black Valley Hill Climbs.  He participated in the District 5 motorcycle events including motocross, hare scrambles and hill climbs.  He enjoyed participating in the Bedford Band Boosters while his daughters were in Band.  He served on the Bedford Area Ambulance Association Board of Directors for over 30 years serving in many capacities including President.     He enjoyed being with his family and friends especially his grandsons and loved his pets.  He loved golfing, Nascar racing, hunting, fishing, camping, and riding and racing motorcycles.  He was also involved in racing his own cars and also building and tuning engines for local stock car drivers like Jack Pencil and Eric Zembower in their early days at the local race tracks.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Pastor David Weinhold officiating.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and a half hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
