Robert D. Goodfellow Jr.

July 7, 1930 — November 26, 2010

Robert D. Goodfellow Jr., 80 of Highland Drive, Bedford, died Friday November 26, 2010 after a lengthy illness, at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.  He was born on July 7, 1930 in Rockwood, a son of the late Robert D. and Mildred (Yeager) Goodfellow Sr.  On May 21, 1960 in Altoona, he married Kay Sullivan and she survives along with a son Robert W. Goodfellow Sr. of Greensburg and two grandchildren Robert W. Goodfellow Jr. and Lauren E. Goodfellow, two brothers Thomas Goodfellow and wife Delores,  and Kenneth Goodfellow, one sister Barbara wife of Robert Crago all of Altoona, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one sister Mary Jean Anthony.

Mr. Goodfellow attended Arizona State, while in the Marine Corps reserves, and was called to active duty due to the Korean War.  After his service he enrolled at Tri-State University in Angola, IN, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He was first employed at Timkin Roller Bearing Company in Canton, OH, and for most of his career, was employed with Kennametal Corp., Inc, in the Mining Tool Division in Bedford.  He held many different positions with Kennametal, traveled internationally and developed numerous patents for them.  After retiring from Kennametal he has been working as a consultant for Stu Blattner Inc, a world renowned raise boring contractor and also worked with AYP International out of Lima Peru.  He was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, Bedford American Legion Post #113, Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, and the Nittnay Lion Club.  He was a former member of Bedford Rotary, the Cumberland Country Club and the Bedford Springs Golf Club.

Funeral services: Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford Presbyterian Church with Rev. Doug Friant officiating.  Burial at Alto Reste Park Cemetery in Altoona.  Friends will be received on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford and ½ hour prior to the service at the Church on Wednesday morning.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions in his remembrance the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 145 S.
