Robert D. Elyard

Robert D. Elyard 76 of Centreville Road, Bedford, died Monday, June 23, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland. He was born February 15, 1932 in Alexandria,VA, son of the late Robert W. and Ludell R. (Davy) Elyard. On August 26, 1956 in Burtonsville, MD, he married Shirley Broyles and she survives along with five children: Beverly J. wife of Robert Willingham of Athens, TX, David E. Elyard married to the former JoAnna Miller of Schellsburg, John R. Elyard married to the former Lennea Jaeger of Husum, WA, James R. Elyard of Clarksville, TN, Joseph R. Elyard of Bedford, nine grandchildren: Kim, David, Jenny, Sam, Aaron, Sarah, Hannah, Naomi and Ahmira and a sister Betty wife of Thomas Malloy of Terrebonne, OR. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Delores Bowles and Barbara Harlow, one brother Ernest Elyard and a grandson Christopher P. Elyard.
Mr. Elyard was a Korean Navy Veteran who served on the USS Chilton. He was a retired
DC Metropolitan Police Officer. He was affiliated with the Centenary United Methodist Church in Cumberland and enjoyed fishing, hunting and wood working.
Memorial services: Friday 11:00 AM in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Friends will be received on Friday morning from 10:00 Am until the time of service.
