Robert E. Belles, 88, of Mountain Road, Alum Bank, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1926, in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Ernest and Leona (Ewig) Belles. On July 24, 1948, in Winchester, VA, he married Leona A. (Westover) Belles who preceded him in death on July 26, 2008. He is survived by: three sons, Ray R. Belles, married to the former Jean Allison, of Alum Bank, Gary A. Belles, married to the former Joyce Whitaker, of Bedford, Rodney K. Belles, married to the former Tina Lindley, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one daughter, Karolyn K., wife of Alan Mock of Alum Bank, seven grandchildren: Roxanne, Heather, Amanda, Alicia, Alaina, Robert, and Kayla; seven great grandchildren: Kyla, Cady, Hailey, Nolan, Caiman, Lilliah, Eliana, and one on the way; three step-grandchildren: Justin, Eric, and Colton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marion, and one brother, William Belles.
Robert was a WWII Navy Veteran serving from 1943 to 1946. He served on the USS Melvin, a Destroyer, that sunk the Japanese battleship, the “Fuso”. He retired on June 30 1986, from Dover Elevator Company, as a mechanic. He was a member of Time Ministries Church and enjoyed helping out there.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. at the Time Ministries Church, with Pastor Dan Stultz and Pastor Gary Boor officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday, at the Time Ministries Church. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
