Robert C. “Smoke” Andrews, 87, of Smithfield Street, Bedford, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born on November 8, 1926, in Johnstown, a son of the late Ted C. and Grace (Cameron) Andrews. On August 20, 1952, in Johnstown, he married Anne (Strehler) Andrews who survives along with a daughter, Mary wife of William Parenteau of North Grafton, MA; and two grandsons, Andrew and Christopher. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lois Andrews and Shirley Brown.
Mr. Andrews was a member and a former Deacon at the Bedford Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School, and served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then attended Bloomsburg State University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He retired in 1984, after 31 years, as a History Teacher at Bedford High School and was the Athletic Director, and coached Football, Basketball, and Golf. He loved to play golf, cards, enjoyed his Fantasy Football League, and traveling to watch his grandsons play in sporting events. He was a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, Bedford American Legion Post #113, Bedford Rotary Club,
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Doug Friant, officiating, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Burial at Grandview Cemetery. Friends will be received on Sunday, from 2-5 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Those wishing may make memorial contribution’s in Smoke’s name to the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 145 South Juliana Street, Bedford, PA 15522.
