Richard L. Keller

Richard L. Keller, 87, of Green Lane, Bedford, died Friday, February 26, 2016, at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  He was born on November 16, 1928 in Bedford, a son of the late Edward C. and Nellie (Sheirer) Keller.  On November 19, 1955 in Cumberland, MD he married Mary Catherine “Katie” Lynch, who preceded him in death on April 7, 1991.  He is survived by a daughter, Wanda A. Keller, and husband Neal Poole of Mechanicsburg, three sons: Steven J. Keller, married to the former Vicki Renk of Bedford, Timothy L. Keller, married to the former Theresa Clingerman of Bedford, and Michael E. Keller, married to the former Connie Spiker of Schellsburg; four grandchildren: Stephanie, Daniel, and wife Bryn (Dehmcke), Jared, and Bradley, special niece, Sharon Gorman Hedberg, and husband Carl of Altoona, a brother-in-law Donald Lynch, and wife Norma Jean of New Baltimore, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three brothers: Homer, George, widow Dorothy surviving of Bedford, and Wayne, widow June surviving of Rainsburg; and one sister, Mary Jane Gorman.

Mr. Keller was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was stationed state side as a Tank Crewman from 1952 to 1954. He worked as a carpenter and was member of the Union Local 950 Tyrone.  He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bedford American Legion Post #113, and Bedford Moose Lodge #480.  He joined the Moose in May of 1969, and was the longest serving Governor of the Bedford Moose Lodge #480.  He received his Fellowship Degree in September of 1985, and his Pilgrim Degree on May 27, 1995.  He was active in the local bowling leagues, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports, Sunday dinners, Pirate baseball and "porch sitting".

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Raymond E. Short officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.  Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Richard’s name to: Mooseheart Child & City School, 155 S.
