Richard O. Grimes

Richard O. Grimes, 96, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Garvey Manor Nursing Home in Hollidaysburg. He was born on February 21, 1929 in Everett, one son of eleven children to the late Simon Grimes Sr. and Edna (O’Shell) Grimes. On January 15, 1948 in Everett, he married Betty Jane (Chamberlain) Grimes and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2012. He is survived by two children: Cynthia “Cindy” Robinette widow of James of Bedford, and Richard Grimes Jr. and wife Janet of Bedford; three grandchildren: James Robinette and wife Tracy of Bedford, Thomas Robinette and wife Melissa of Bedford, and Scott Robinette and wife Jamie of New Enterprise; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Janet Triplett of Martinsburg, Jamie Pittman of Everett, Beverly Diehl of Bedford, Bob Grimes of Clearville, Jim Grimes of Everett, and Greg Grimes of Everett. He was preceded in death by infant granddaughters, Susan and Christine, and four siblings, Simon Grimes Jr., Betty Snyder, Charlotte Brown, and Nancy Pepple.

Richard was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and worked at Kennametal as an inspector, later retiring in 1994. He enjoyed raising Morgan Horses.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Fr. Richard Tomkosky officiating. A committal service will follow at Woods Church Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
