Richard W. Eichler, 78, of W. John St., Bedford, died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born July 29, 1930 in Alum Bank, son of the late Edward and Alice (Rock) Eichler. On July 29, 1963 in Winchester, VA, he married Dorothy Dumpert and she survives along with three daughters: Dianna Eichler of Aurora, CO, Anita wife of Jeff Kendall of Bedford and Charisse wife of Kelly Zapata of Aurora, CO., four grandchildren: Adam, Corey, Race and Alyssa, two brothers: Harry Eichler of Fredericktown, Missouri, and Ted Eichler and wife Mary of Alum Bank, four sisters: Helen wife of Manuel Moreno of Butler, Betty Wentz of Alum Bank, Gretchen Ethridge of Orlando, FL, and Nancy wife of Watson Shipley of Sharpsville. He was preceded in death by one brother Edward Eichler.
Mr. Eichler owned and operated Eichler’s Transmission Service and also the Chestnut Ridge Home Park in Fishertown for many years, until his retirement. He was Korean War Veteran who served in communications with the Navy.
Funeral Services: Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, with Rev. Doug Friant officiating. The Fort Bedford Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and one hour prior to the service on Thursday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes, Research Foundation International, 120 Wall St., New York, NY 10005 in his memory.
