Richard A. "Dick" May

March 25, 1931 — February 11, 2017

Richard A. May 85, of Dibert Road, Everett, most recently of Colonial Courtyard, Bedford died Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Courtyard.  He was born on March 25, 1931 in Rainsburg, a son of the late Doyle and Mary (Mower) May.  On December 13, 1958 in Bedford, he married Betty J. (Heeter) May who preceded him in death on Friday, January 4, 2013.  He is survived by the following family: a step-son, Darryl L. Price, married to the former Mary Jones, of Greencastle, a step-son Ronald L. Price, of Bedford, a daughter, Sharon E. Fetter and companion Tim Harclerode, of Bedford, a son William F. May, of Glade Pike, and a daughter Tina P. Martin, and husband Roger L. of Bedford; 10 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and step-great-granchildren; a sister Kathryn Hershberger and husband Richard of Osterburg; and a brother Douglas May and wife Judy of Bedford.  He was preceded in death by two brothers: Joe and William May; and by a sister Pauline Kegg.

Dick was a member of the Bald Hill Lutheran Church, and served on the council for many years. He was a 1949 graduate of Bedford High School, and then went to work on the pipeline in New York.  Dick was then drafted into the Army in 1952 and served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He then went to work for Kennametal in Bedford, and retired after 38 years of employment.  He was a member of the NRA and Everett American Legion Post # 6.  Dick had a great sense of humor, and was an avid hunter with some of his best times spent in the woods hunting turkey and deer.  He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and, great-grandfather, who will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Jenny Barnes officiating.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 3-7 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Richard’s name to: Love INC, Wheels Away Program, 80 State Street, Everett, PA 15537.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
