Richard P. "Dick" Hockenberry, 68 of Osterburg, died on April 27, 2017, while surrounded by family, at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, in Altoona. He was born on November 12, 1948, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Bertha Hockenberry. He is survived by the following family three sons:  Jason Hockenberry and wife Michelle, of Osterburg,  John Hockenberry and wife Suzanne, of Crystal Springs, Brian Hockenberry and girlfriend Julia, of Jersey Shore; nine grandchildren:  Nerissa Becket and husband Ryan, Kassandra, Savannah, Richie, Mason Hockenberry, Deanna, Andrea and Nick Sumner and BriAnna Hockenberry and her mother Jennifer; two great grandchildren:  Rylynn and Raycee Becket; one brother, David  Hockenberry and wife Norma of Shelton, WA; and one sister, Cindy Ickes-Naughton, of Bedford.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Hockenberry.

Dick graduated from Bedford High School in 1967 and served in the Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman during Vietnam.  He was a member of the Bedford VFW Post # 7527, the Bedford American Legion Post #113, and the BCVVA.  He drove tractor-trailer for many years as an owner-operator and later worked for H.B. Mellott as part of their equipment maintenance team servicing equipment locations across the Eastern United States. More recently he served as the Quarter Master, then eventually as the manager for the Bedford VFW.  He enjoyed going on spur of the moment rides on his Harley as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in his service to his country, his work, and his family. He was loved in life and he will be missed in his absence.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor John Bennett officiating.  Burial at Fishertown Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Friday, form 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.   Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
