Raymond J. Nave

Raymond J. ‘Ray’ Nave, 96, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Homewood at Martinsburg. He was born on February 14, 1921, in Friends Cove, a son of the late Lewis and Ella (Sollenberger) Nave. On December 17, 1942, in Cumberland, MD, he married AnnaBelle (Deremer) Nave who preceded him in death on March 14, 2008. He is survived by three daughters: Harriett Clapper and husband Jay, of Wake Forest, NC, Sandy Lohr and husband John, of Woodbridge, VA, Diane Lobur and husband Jeri, of Akron, NY; one son, Thomas Nave married to the former Joy Clark, of Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Callihan widow John of Bedford. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Brandy Jo Nave and Jacob Alex Lobur, two brothers, Tolbert "Tuck" and Harold "Hoot" Nave, three sisters, Ethel Anderson, Dorothy "Dot" Clites, and Della Clark.

Raymond was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He worked on his own farm in Friends Cove, and prior to that worked as a short order cook at Howard Johnson’s.  He then drove truck for Spector Trucking and retired after 29 years and accomplished a million miles safety record.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling until he was 93, golfing, square dancing, and gardening.  He was a member of the Bedford Sportsman Club, Lazy Bee camping club, AARP volunteer with his wife, Lifetime Bedford Moose Lodge #480, and Elks Lodge #1707. He cooked steaks at the Fort Bedford Inn during the Fall Foliage Festival. He enjoyed the winters in Florida with his wife.  He was a man who loved the Lord, being a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Eric Larson officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Friday, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
