Ralph J. Fleegle, 83, of Barclay Drive Bedford, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his residence. He was born on February 27, 1926, in Duncansville, a son of the late Clinton and Helen M. (Funk) Fleegle. On April 3, 1948 in Cumberland, MD he married Myrtle A. “Peg” Marshall who survive along with three children, Sheryll J. wife of Kerry Deffibaugh of Imler, Cathy E. wife of Terry Vincent of Everett, Roger J. Fleegle married to the former Jennette Greenleaf of Martinsburg, eight grandchildren, Rodney Harclerode, Beth Wise, Peggy Harclerode, Marede Diehl, Kevin Harclerode, Michael Allison, Brian Miller, and Catrina Sell, 22 great grandchildren, and the following brothers, and sisters; Victor Fleegle and wife Virginia of Ogdensburg, NY, Polly Wambaugh of Bedford, Alice wife of Max Short of Reynoldsdale, Linda Romani of Spartansburg, SC, and a brother, Paul Fleegle and wife Betty of York. He was preceded in death by three sisters Janet Stufft, Mary Lois Hogan, and Laurajean Smith.
He worked for 10 years as a self employed truck driver and prior to that drove for Warner-Continental for 22 years. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge # 320 F. & A.M, and a WWII Army Veteran who served in the European Theatre. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors and was a member of the Snake Spring Valley Hunting Club. He was also a former stock car driver in the 50’s and 60’s and was known as “slab foot”.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Boor officiating. Burial at Greenfield Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
