Phyllis M. (Kimmel) Strawn

Phyllis M. Strawn, 88, of Bedford, died on August 22, 2018, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 5, 1930, in Shanksville, a daughter of the late John J. and Catherine B. (Glessner) Kimmel. On January 23, 1949, in Shanksville, she married Maurice R. "Moe" Strawn who preceded her in death on August 3, 2011.  She is survived by a daughter, Doris J. Fumai and husband William, of Augusta, GA; a son, M. Robert Strawn Jr., and wife Karen, of Johnstown, four grandchildren:  Nathan Claycomb and wife Denise of Lancaster, Jessica Miller and husband Cory, of Hooversville, Ian Strawn and wife Brianna, of Phoenix, AZ, Wesley J. Strawn and wife Laura, of Johnstown; six great grandchildren:  Ephram and Ethan Claycomb, Carson, and Quinn Miller, and Jackson and Iris Strawn; and one brother James C. Kimmel and wife Joann, of Berlin. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Ann Strawn, two brothers:  infant Jonathan and Robert Kimmel.

Phyllis was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford.  She drove school bus for 35 years for Oster’s Bus. She was an avid golfer, and was part owner with her family at North Fork Country Club in Johnstown.  She also had served as President for some organizations including the Bedford County Bowling Association and the Bedford Lioness Club, and was the 1st President of the former Bedford Ladies Elks Auxiliary.  She loved her ice cream, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Bedford, with Pastor Raymond E. Short officiating.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis’s name to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 106 West Penn Street, Bedford, PA 15522.
