Paul Deasey Sr.

Paul Deasey Sr., 87, of Ott Town Road, Everett, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at home after a long, courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side. He was born on September 27, 1927, in DuBois, a son of the late Sam and Orpha (King) Deasey. On December 24, 1955, in Ambler, he married Mary Esther Cessna, who survives along with the following family: a son, Dana Whiteman and wife Alyxz of Diamond, OH, a daughter, Lona Lewis of St. Petersburg, FL, a son, Paul Deasey, Jr. of Everett, a daughter, Sharon  Deasey of Bedford, a son, Gary Deasey of Osterburg, a son, David Deasey and wife Ashley of New Paris, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren,  a sister, Marion Foltz of Kensington, MD,  a brother, Joe Deasey and wife Kay of Brockway, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one grandson Larry Anderson.

After graduation in 1945 from Sandy High School in Dubois, Paul enlisted in the US Navy where he served four years of his life.  Following his career in the Navy he began to pursue a career in baseball.  This career began when he signed on to be a member of the Dubois Rockets, and at the same time was working for B&O Railroad.  After finding success at the local level he went on to pitch for the St. Louis Browns a minor league team from St. Catherine’s Ontario.  Following his baseball career, Paul found employment in Philadelphia working for Kohler and Sons where he remained for over 25 years.  During this time he found himself engulfed in fast cars and dirt tracks.  He was the owner of the well known 707 “Big Donkey”.  During his racing career he along with over eight drivers earned the right to place in the DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame.  Paul was a member of the Yeager Memorial Lutheran Church in Rainsburg, and was the founder and owner of Deasey Machine Tool and Die. After his retirement he spent most of his time hunting, fishing, traveling out west and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Deasey was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.  His legacy will truly live on.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Jenny Barnes officiating.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made in Paul’s name to Yeager Memorial Lutheran Church, 3419 Main Road, Bedford, PA 15522.
