Paul F. Shoemaker

Paul F. Shoemaker, 89, of Bedford, died Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Bedford Colonial Courtyard.  He was born on June 27, 1929 in Buffalo Mills, a son of the late Frederick M. and Anna (Hillegass) Shoemaker.  On March 7, 1953 in Cessna, he married Nora (Anderson) Shoemaker, who survives of Bedford.  He was preceded in death by two sisters: Martha Biggins and Dorothy Fisher; one brother William “Bill” Shoemaker, and a half-brother, Robert McVicker.

Paul was a 1948 graduate of Shellsburg Napier High School.  During High School he served with Brethren Relief attending to horses on a boat in route to Poland, providing post war relief to its citizens.  After graduating from high school, he served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.  Paul then went to work at the Washington Bakery for several years before becoming the owner alongside his wife Nora for 27 years.  He played the trumpet and was a member of the Fishertown Community Band for over 60 years.  He was a member of the Milligan’s Cove Christian Church and also sang in the church choir.  He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 6:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Russell Hoffman officiating.  Burial at Fishertown Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to: Milligan’s Cove Christian Church, c/o Carle Garland, 131 Ross Drive, Apt 6, Bedford, PA 15522.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
