Paul Vernon Livengood, 99, of Simpson Street, Bedford, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 9, 1913, in Salisbury, the son of the late Joseph and Celesta May (Fike) Livengood. On September 4, 1940, in Cumberland, MD, he married Nellie Mae Cessna who survives along with the following family, a daughter, Linda Brown, a son, John Paul Livengood and wife Rose all of Bedford, two grandchildren, Juli Dull and husband Jeff and Travis Livengood and wife Julie all of Bedford, four great grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Dull and Sadie and Grey Livengood all of Bedford.  The following nieces and nephews: Robert Hawk and wife Arleen, Jennifer Hawk Davison, Roderick Livengood, Judy Livengood Burnett and husband Barry, Jan Livengood Wilson and husband Richard and Jean Livengood.  He was preceded in death by two brothers Carlton and Denver Livengood and one sister Fern Livengood Hawk.  Paul graduated from Salisbury High School where he played basketball with his two brothers. He was team captain his senior year.  Paul worked for Union Switch and Signal in Swissvale.  While there he worked on the “Manhattan Project” during WWII.  He worked with his brothers on the Livengood Brothers Farm and later owned and operated his own dairy farm in Friends Cove.  He and his wife owned Livengood’s Grocery in Reynoldsdale.  He retired at age 72 and enjoyed gardening and woodworking.  His wood projects earned him many ribbons at the Bedford County Fair.  He was a member of the Friends Cove UCC Double Brick Church and a past member of the church consistory.  He and his wife enjoyed touring the countryside with the Bedford Antique Car Club driving his prized 1959 Chevy.  Paul was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending games to watch his family play and continued to attend local sporting events well into his nineties.  He was also a Pittsburgh Steeler, Pirate and Pitt fan.  His favorite times were being with his family and chatting with everyone he met, making friends wherever he went.  When asked what his greatest achievement was, he always had the same answer  “my family”.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at  St. John's United Church of Christ, in Bedford, with Rev. Paul Claycomb and a nephew Pastor Robert Hawk officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Friday, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements by the Timothy A.
