Olga Custer, 80, of Forest Ave, Bedford, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at her residence. She was born on May 3, 1930 in Johnstown, a daughter, of the late Charles and Olga (Hautz) Palm. She married Albert C. Custer Sr., and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2001. She is survived by the following family: a son, Albert C. Custer Jr. and wife Linda of Alum Bank, a son, Robert A. Custer of Bedford, a daughter, Peggy Whitfield and husband Herb of Martinsburg, a son, Michael P. Custer of Bedford, and a son, Paul A. Custer of Morrisville, NC, six grandchildren: Jennifer Sell, Heidi Walter, Matthew Custer, Lacey Custer, Herb “J.R. Whitfield Jr., and Robert “Bobby” Whitfield, 11 great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, a brother, Charles "Chiz" Palm and wife Dolly of Johnstown, a sister, Mary Plummer widow of Dan of Johnstown, a brother, Anthony "Tony" Palm and wife Shirley of Johnstown, and a sister, Sybilla Gacka widow of Larry, of FL. She was preceded in death by one great grandson Bryce Whitfield and one brother Ronald Palm and wife Alicia who survives of Johnstown, and a special friend Leroy "Bud" Seifert.
She was affiliated with the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford, and worked at Shawnee State Park as a secretary. She bartended at the American Legion where she was a former member of the ladies Auxiliary, Lake View, and Bennett’s. She spent time in the Bakery at the Old Bedford Village and Drove for Maxwell’s Transportation. She helped at the concession stands for Mae’s Dinner during the races and the fair. She enjoyed volunteering and dressing up a as clown known as “Blue Ribbon” for fundraising events.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011, at 11:00 in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Father Tom Kosky Celebrant. Burial at Schellsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
