Nuner C. Oster

Nuner C. “Johnny” Oster, 91, of Bedford Valley Road, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born on November 28, 1917, in Bedford Valley, a son, of the late Thomas D. and Isa P. (Wertz) Oster.  On May 20, 1939 in Cumberland, MD, He married Helen M. Cussins that ended a marriage of 69 years. She survives along with the following family, a daughter, Janet wife of Jack Bussard of Greencastle, a daughter, Doris Maffucci, of Dawsonville, GA, a son, Thomas, married to the former Vicki Young of Bedford, a daughter, Kathy wife of Brian Beers of Dillsburg, seven grandchildren:  Doug and Trevis Bussard, Michael Maffucci, Carey Hill, Eric Oster, Jamie and Matthew McCord, and three great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert Oster.

He was a life member of the Providence Lutheran Church, in Bedford Valley, and worked as a bus contractor for the Bedford School District for 37 years.  He was a life member and worked as a greens keeper at the Elks Lodge 1707. He was a past governor of the Moose Lodge 480, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He volunteered his time with the meals on wheels program.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Inc., in Bedford with Pastor Jenny Barnes officiating, burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-7 PM, at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
