Norma Jean Hagstrom

d. November 12, 2010

Norma Jean “Gram” (Smith) Hagstrom, 81, the only child of the late Lee and Ruth Marie Smith of Spring Hope went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2010.  Gram graduated from what is now Chestnut Ridge High School. She went on to work at Brown Motor Supply and later in life at the St James Thrift Shop. She also served as the organist at St. James Bedford Episcopal Church. Gram donated her time as a volunteer to working with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and Bedford Fire Department fund raising events.  She persevered through illness and participated for several years in the Bedford Cancer Survivor Walk.

Gram married the late James E. Montgomery in 1952. Following the passing of James she married the late William T. Hagstrom in 1957.  Gram and Bill lived a wonderful life together. One of their favorite past times was dancing at the Bedford Elks Country Club. She also enjoyed the outdoors; walking through the community and gardening.  Gram spent numerous hours in her kitchen canning the fruits of her labor while catching up on local sporting events. She is survived by four children; John L. Montgomery (husband of Pamela Scritchfield), James E. Montgomery, Jr. (husband of Julia Lins), Douglas G. Hagstrom (companion of Janey Black), and Eric S. Hagstrom (companion of Delrae Perrin) in addition to three stepchildren; John W. Hagstrom of Newport, PA (husband of Donna Miller), Mary Lesh Brubaker of Duncanon, PA (wife of Lester Brubaker), and Marion Haines of Lancaster, PA (wife of James Haines).  Gram is also survived by twelve loving grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on December 4th at the St. James Bedford Episcopal Church. Fellowship and meal to follow at the church parish hall.  A burial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Fishertown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in her name to the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, PA to be distributed to charitable organizations close to her.
