Nelson E. “Ted” Vensel, 81, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 28, 1944 in Bedford, a son of the late Edward E. and Ferne E. (Brandt) Vensel. On June 3, 1967 in Bedford, he married Linda (Hershberger) Vensel and she survives after 59 years of marriage along with two daughters: Stephanie Martz and Christy Kidd; sons-in-law Andy Martz and Eric Kidd, all of Bedford; five grandchildren: Brittany Alexander and husband Jake, Jeffrey Kidd, Emily, Elizabeth, and Kacey Martz; two great-grandsons: Aiden and Theo Alexander; a sister: Trudy Cseko widow of Carl of Mechanicsburg; a brother: Paul “Smoke” Vensel and wife Dorothy of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son: Michael Vensel.
Ted retired from Kennametal after 40 years of employment. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707. He enjoyed golfing, traveling with Linda, attending car shows with his Falcon, and spending time with his family and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. Ted will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his loyal friendships.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Weinhold officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford and 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service on Wednesday at the church. A Celebration of Life will be held following the funeral at 1:00 p.m. at the Bedford Elks Country Club. The family invites all friends to join them for ‘One More’ in honor of Ted. Those wishing to make a donation in Ted’s name may do so to the Fort Bedford Honor Guard, 1399 Lafayette Road, New Enterprise, PA 16664.
