Nancy J. (Perdew) Crawford

Nancy J. Crawford, 77, of Bedford, died on Friday, August 1, 2025 at her residence. She was born on April 24, 1948, in Cumberland, MD, a daughter of the late Donald E. and Charlotte Marie (Nelson) Perdew. Nancy met Paul Crawford Jr. her loving husband of 58 years in elementary school, and they became high school sweethearts, and married on July 8, 1967 in Centerville. Along with her husband she is survived by a son, Col (Ret) Dr. Paul Crawford III and wife Kristy of Bedford, a daughter Jennie Crawford of Gulu, Uganda; four grandchildren:  Amanda Crawford, Makayla Mouannes and husband Jason, Katie Crawford, and Ben Crawford and wife Erin; two sisters, Deborah Desmond and husband Thomas of Alamo, CA, and Diane Braman and husband Anthony of Bedford; She was preceded in death by two brothers Donald Jr. and Ronald Perdew, and one sister Lisa Fink.

Nancy was a graduate of Bedford High School class of 1966. She first worked as an operator for United Telephone Company and became a wonderful full-time mom that served beside her husband at the churches he ministered. She also worked as a teacher’s aide for many years, and eventually earned her licensed practical nursing degree later in life and enjoyed helping people as a home health nurse for many years. Her heart for service and joy of being with people was displayed as a long-time choir member, young adult Sunday School teacher, host for women’s Bible studies and retreats, member of Stephen Ministry, and going on missions to Haiti, North Carolina, and Peru, which was always her dream.  She was generous with love and gifts to not only her immediate and extended families, but to many through the years. She was a talented seamstress, loved to craft, look at cookbooks, garden, view the Grand Canyon, listen to Elvis, keep up with her siblings, and be with her grandkids.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bedford Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Marsh officiating.  Burial at Union Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford and 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church on Wednesday.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Finding the Way Africa to help sponsored girls and women with tailoring school and sewing machines and supplies.
