Mildred K. Carper, 94 of Upper Snake Spring Valley Road, Everett, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born September 14, 1915 in Everett, daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary J. (Miller) Swindell. On September 11, 1934 in Cumberland, MD, she married John M. Carper and he preceded her in death on June 23, 1976. She is survived by a sister Edna Diehl of York, two brothers; Robert J. Swindell, married to the former Doris Henry of Bedford, and J. Duane Swindell married to the former Gladys Freeman of Everett, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Elza, Roy and Paul Swindell, a sister Evelyn Diehl and three infant brothers.
Mrs. Carper was a member of the Everett Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school for many years. She had worked as a guide at Old Bedford Village, was a former tax collector for Snake Spring TWP and prior to that had worked in the Dietary Dept. at Bedford Hospital. She was a historian and the family genealogist, and even thou she did not have children of her own, she was Mother to her entire family, especially her niece Bonnie Diehl. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Funeral Services: Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Everett Brethren Church, with Rev. Frank Ramirez officiating, assisted by Rev. Beverly Swindell. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning. Those wishing may make contributions to the Everett Church of the Brethren, 119 E.
