Mervyn Cecil Rose, 73, of Cumberland Valley died suddenly Thursday, July 19, 2011. He was born December 28, 1937 in Cumberland, MD, a son of the late Russell Milton and Mabel (Frantz) Rose. He is survived by his wife, Sue O. (Houseworth) Rose who he married on June 22, 1963, his son Trevor Rose, husband of Laura, and two granddaughters Amelia and Evelyn and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebecca Rose, a brother Harry Sherwood Rose and an infant sister Karen Rebecca.
Mervyn was a 1955 graduate of Bedford High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, and again from 1961 to 1962. He attended lumber inspection school at the National Hardwood Lumber Association in Memphis, TN and worked his career at M.C. Houseworth Lumber Company until his retirement in 1990.
Mervyn was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was a member of the Rose Hunting Camp. He enjoyed bowling and traveling with his wife and friends. Mervyn loved to farm, garden and just be outdoors. He was a life member of Providence Lutheran Church in Centerville.
Funeral Services: Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. John Timm officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
