Matthew Brian Lohr

Matthew Brian Lohr, 47, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born on February 26, 1969, in Bedford, a son of John F. and Mary Jane (Pensyl) Lohr of Bedford. On September 16, 1991, in Winchester, VA, he married Amy (Growden) Lohr who survives along with three sons:  Jacob Eagleson, Jesse McKane, and Joshua Tyler Lohr all of Bedford, two grandchildren:  Layla and Liam Eagleson also of Bedford, a sister, Sonya Yvonne (Lohr) Weyant and husband Scott of Manns Choice.

Matthew was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1987.  He was a Sgt. In the Army and served four years active duty as a medic during Desert Storm and Desert Shield.  He became injured during Desert Storm and wrote a book about his experiences with treating soldiers and civilians.  He became an ordained minister through Winslow House in North Carolina,  and Agape ministry in Winchester, VA.  He helped with Chalybeate Springs Ministries. Before moving back to Bedford he owned Dominion Flooring with his wife in North Carolina.   He was very active in speaking and gave seminars about his experience in dealing with PTSD.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.  He was a real gearhead and enjoyed restoring vehicles and was in the middle of a 69 Ford project.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with Rev. Lee Prock officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
