Mary L. Kauffman, 95 of Bedford, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home. She was born on June 16, 1921 in Hanover, a daughter of the late Tempest and Gertrude (Ernst) Shaffer. On September 11, 1942 in Winchester, VA she married William K.E. Kauffman who preceded her in death on June 3, 2005. She is survived by two daughters: Carole K. Waltman widow of Royce of Fishers, IN, and Karen S. Mucci and husband Michael, of Havertown; two grandchildren: Suzanne Beane of Cincinnati, OH, and Kevin Waltman and wife Jessica, of Coker, AL; and four great-grandchildren: Samuel Waltman-Beane, Lily Beane, Calla Waltman, and Holling Waltman.
Mrs. Kauffman was a Registered Nurse starting her career at the York Hospital, and then the former Timmins Hospital in Bedford. She then was the Charge Nurse of the Maternity Ward at Bedford Hospital, and retired from Geriatric Nursing. She was a member of the Bedford Springs Chapter #41 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved with the Sunshine Circle and Senior Choir. She was a great seamstress, and enjoyed crocheting, and participating in the activities at Spring House Estates, such as bingo, bocce, Wii bowling, and bible study. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Bedford, with Rev. David Weinhold officiating. Burial at East Prospect Cemetery, in York. Friends will be received on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
