Mary Jean Lohr, 77 of Lohr Road, Schellsburg died Monday, August 1, 2016 at UPMC Bedford Hospital. She was born on October 2, 1938 in New Buena Vista a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Wolfhope) Sarver. On December 27, 1955 in Cumberland, MD, she married Leyn Lohr, who preceded her in death on March 1, 2012. She is survived by the following children: Karen Caton and husband Ed, of Schellsburg, Kevin Lohr, married to the former Jane Dull, of New Paris, Kathy Dull and husband Eric, of Alum Bank, and Keith Lohr, and girlfriend Leslie Kennedy, of Schellsburg; ten grandchildren: Angela Goodrich, and husband Tony, Ryan Caton, and wife Jen, Rebecca Zembower and husband Tommy, Scott Dull, Hunter Lohr and fiancée Jamie, Matt Dull, and girlfriend Jordyn, Alicia Sharer, Trent Lohr, McKenzie and Kaelyn Lohr, who both resided with Jean; three great-grandchildren: Maddie, Gunner, and Dylan; two sisters: Dorothy Frazier, of Schellsburg, and Margaret Liberty, of New Buena Vista, a brother Joe Sarver, of Vidor, TX, and a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Kay Lohr, of Schellsburg. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Earl Lohr, and a brother Lawrence Sarver Jr.
Jean retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and was an EMT with both the turnpike and the Shawnee Valley Ambulance Service. She was a past chairman of the Bedford County Republican Party for many years, an active volunteer with the Chestnut Ridge School District, and attended the Faith Brethren Bible Church, in Schellsburg. Jean had just completed another successful year at the Bedford County Fair, helping her grandchildren with their animals. She was a take charge person, who was never idle, always at the ready to be involved in an activity, or take care of someone in need. She was known as ‘Meme’ to a large extended family of friends and her love and guidance will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at the Faith Brethren Bible Church, in Schellsburg, with Rev. Jim Espenshade officiating. Burial at Schellsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 5-9 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
