Mary B. Karns, of Bedford, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at the age of 79. She was born on July 19, 1947, daughter of (Col) James H. Buckey and G. Ellen Stone in East Derry, NH. On May 27, 1972, she married Harry E. Karns Sr. “Ace”, the love of her life and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2024. She is survived by two sons: Jeffrey and wife Vicki of Hollidaysburg, and Adam and wife Lisa of St. Augustine, FL.; three grandsons: Spenser, Logan, and Jesse; two great-grandsons: Kyler and Dean; a brother: Kerry of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends and Tennessee family, the Willises. She was preceded in death by a son: Harry Jr.; a grandson: Ryan; a brother: James Jr.; a sister: Lyn; and a nephew: Robert Hyde.

Mary graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in 1965, Shippensburg University in 1969, and received a Master’s of Education degree from Gannon University. She taught English in grades 7 through 12 in the Everett Area School District for 25 years. She was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. Mary loved to read, to learn new things, and to do word puzzles. Her greatest joy, however, was her family and friends, who made her feel truly blessed.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no memorial service and burial will be at the convenience of the family with Rev. Dr. Jack Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 145 South Juliana Street, Bedford, PA 15522. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
