Martha R. "Skip" (Wertz) Dishong

Martha R. “Skip” Dishong 86, of Bedford, died on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at UPMC Bedford Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on April 17, 1936 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Earl F. and Catherine (Datres) Wertz. On April 23, 1960 in Bedford, she married Joseph D. Dishong and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2011.  She is survived by four daughters: Marcie Sellers and husband David of Dover; Lisa Clapper and husband David of Carlisle, Joleen Clapper and husband Jeffrey of Bedford, Michele King and husband James of Bedford; 12 grandchildren:  Kerri, Matt, Sarah, Joseph, Tom, Shawn, Jacob, Kateri, Levi, Codi, Trista, and Kerstin; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: James E. Wertz of Bedford, and Eugene G. Wertz and wife Donna also of Bedford; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by a great-grandson Jaxon and a brother Charles Wertz.

Skip was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and a life member of the local chapter of Woodmen of the World. She worked as a waitress for 12 years at the Landmark restaurant in Bedford.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother that enjoyed bowling, collecting bells, baking with her granddaughters and making sand tarts for her family and friends.  She also enjoyed trips to the Casino, watching the Pirates and Steelers, and playing card games with family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.  in the chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Father Richard Tomkosky officiating. Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Bedford. Friends will be received on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
