Martha J. (Horner) Benna, 91, of Butler Avenue, Bedford, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her residence. She was born on November 23, 1921, in Windber, a daughter of the late Chester and Hilda W. (Hedlund) Shull. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin S. Horner, on October 15, 1973, and by her second husband, Gerald Benna, on October 31, 1980. She is survived by two sons: Gary Horner and wife Geraldine, of Reading, and Raymond Horner and wife Cheryl, of Bedford; a step-daughter, Diane wife of Jim Gialamas, of Ft. Wayne, IN; five grandchildren: Kelly, Melissa, Scott, Tammy, and Lisa; six great-grandchildren: Emily, Jacob, Benjamin, Anna, Adam, and Jayden; and five step-grandchildren: Eric, Brian, David, Andrea, and Cory. She was preceded in death by a step-son: David Benna, and a brother Alfred Shull.
Martha was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. She worked at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home, and UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital when they first opened. She volunteered with the Retired Senior Citizens, and at the Senior Center. She was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113 Ladies Auxillary.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Doug Friant and Pastor John Bennett officiating. Burial at Fishertown Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
