Marie Wood Allen

Marie Wood Allen, 92, passed away on February 26, 2016 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home.  She was born in 1923 on Staten Island, NYC, the only daughter of John Francis (Wood) and Anna Matilda Johanson.  Marie, who preferred to be called Toni, spent her early years as the ward of her uncle and aunt, Gen William Floyd Brown USMC Ret., and Cecile Antoinette Woodiwiss.  Toni traveled extensively with them, from New York City, Guam, San Francisco, to Virginia.  It was in Alexandria, VA, that she graduated from George Washington High School and married James William Allen.  They had three children, James William Floyd Allen, Robert Wood Allen, and Valerie Dawn Allen.  Toni was active in the community of Springfield, VA where the family moved in 1950.  She was one of the charter members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Springfield, and has always remained a member.  Most of her working career was with the Federal Government and retired from the Veterans Administration after twenty years of government service.  Upon the death of her husband in 1994, Toni moved to Symrna, Tennessee, where she lived for 15 years.  Two years ago she moved to Bedford, Pennsylvania to live with her son and resided at 909 S. Juliana Street.  Toni is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She will be missed and remembered by all.
