Margaret V. "Peg" Bortz, 88, of S. Richard Street, Bedford, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. She was born on June 11, 1925, in Bedford, a daughter of the late John A. and Virginia (Defibaugh) Ott. On April 5, 1946, in Virginia, she married George R.  Bortz who preceded her in death on January 23, 2008.  She is survived by a son, Jeffry L. Bortz married to the former JoAnne Fleegle, and a daughter, Candace wife of Rodney Secrest, both of Bedford; five grandchildren: Brandee and Rebecca Bortz, John Nicklaus Bortz and wife Jenn, Justin Secrest and wife Kim and Maggi Secrest; five step-grandchildren: Gregg Feaster and wife Stacey, Aliza and husband Dan Baker, Jesse Feaster, Robert and Jeff Griffiths; four great-grandchildren: Bennet, Blake, and Greta Secrest and Lily Potvin; two step-great-grandchildren: Sydney Feaster and Afton Baker; two nephews Gary and Steve Ott, a niece, Annette Nolte, an aunt, Iva Defibaugh, and a few cousins.  She was preceded in death by a son, John R. Bortz and widow Majorie of Harrisburg, a daughter-in-law, Artie Bortz, and a brother, John Ott.

Peg was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  She graduated from Bedford High School Class of 1943, and attended Pierce Business School in Philadelphia.  She was a former member of the 20th Century Club, Bedford Business & Professional Women’s Club, Bedford Garden Club, Bedford Hospital Auxiliary, Bedford Republican Women’s Club, and Moose Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, and a former member of the Bedford Springs Golf Association, Bedford Elks Ladies Golf Club, Ladies Golf Club of Crystal Lake in Pompano, Florida, and a former member of Cumberland Ladies Golf Association.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Bedford, with Pastor Raymond E. Short officiating.  Burial at Bedford Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Saturday, from 5-7 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, and a half our prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
