Mahlon U. Dimond, 77, of Bedford, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Hilltop Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Altoona. He was born on March 8, 1947 in Altoona, a son of the late Mahlon U. and Margaret P. (Stotler) Dimond. On January 20, 1970 in Saxton, he married S. Jane (Shoemaker) Dimond who survives along with the two daughters: Katie S. Lakatosh and husband Chad of Bellefonte; and Marcie E. Elbin and husband Kyle of Manheim; three grandchildren: Leah, Reese, and Drew. One brother Rodney L. Dimond and wife Vickie of Savanah, TN and one sister-in-law Marci A. Muir of Huntingdon.
Mahlon was a member and past deacon at the Bedford Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1965 and Valley Forge Military Academy in 1967. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from IUP, and then a Master’s degree in education from Penn State University. He retired from teaching at Bedford School District after 37 years. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Bedford Fire Department, the Bicentennial Band, Amateur Radio Club, and Bedford Sportsman’s Club. Mahlon enjoyed his family vacations at Surfside Beach in South Carolina.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Friends will be received on Monday, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
