Mabel E. Howsare, 94, of Cardinal Lane, Bedford, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at her residence. She was born on October 3, 1914 in Brushy Run, WV, a daughter of the late Joseph B. and Bertha Ann (Hendrick) Alt. On October 1, 1932 in Cumberland, MD, she married Carl Howsare and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2004. She is survived by a daughter, Judith A Koontz and partner John Tew of Bedford, nine grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son William Howsare, one daughter B. Jane Stroup wife of Gordon Stroup of FL, one great grandson Joshua Koontz, two brothers Quentin and Herman Alt, two sisters Nellie Baumgartel, and Opal Nave.
She was a member and played the piano for many years at Bethel United Methodist Church. She owned and worked a dairy farm with her husband for many years. She was an avid sewer and quilter and She loved gardening and cooking.
Funeral Services: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 11:00 AM, in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home Inc., in Bedford, with the Pastor Grace Whitfield officiating. Burial at Zion Memorial Cemetery, in Cumberland, MD. Friends will be received on Wednesday 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
