Louis "Kim" Kimmel Buterbaugh

Louis Kimmel “Kim” Buterbaugh 80, of Bedford, passed away peacefully with his loving life partner Betty Calhoun by his side, on Sunday, October 27, 2024.  He was born on February 3, 1944 in Williamsport, a son of the late Ernest and Nancy Mae (Hughes) Buterbaugh.  On August 21, 1965 in Bedford, he married Barbara Sharon (Miller) Buterbaugh who preceded him in death on July 22, 2019.  He is survived by three children: Chad Buterbaugh and Lynne, of Duncansville, Johanna Kelly and husband Chris, of Greer, SC, and Jerrod Buterbaugh and wife Denise, of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren: Chloe Hawk, Sarah Nestor and husband Luke, Patrick Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Sam Buterbaugh, and Max Buterbaugh; two great-grandchildren; life partner Betty Calhoun; two siblings: Owen Buterbaugh and wife Karen, of New Paris, and Neal Buterbaugh and wife Linda, of Bedford; close niece Paula Henry and husband Brian, of Johnstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kim was a 1962 graduate of Bedford High School and excelled at football, wrestling, and track and field.  He then received his bachelor’s of education from Florida State University in 1966. He was a teacher and wrestling coach in Hackettstown, NJ, and later at Shippensburg High School.  While at Shippensburg, Kim coached several wrestlers to compete at the state championship. Later he became a State Farm insurance agent in Duncansville and retired after 23 years.  He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed fly fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada with his father, and extended family.  He enjoyed reading, history, supporting Bedford High School athletics, and music.  He was a longtime member and past president of the Blair Regional YMCA, Bedford United Methodist Church, and sang in a worship band at the Hollidaysburg United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.  Friends will be received on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Blair Regional YMCA , c/o Phyllis Baker, 1111 Hewit St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
