Loretta K. Gunkel, 88 of Victoria Ave., Everett, died Friday evening, June 3, 2011 at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring. She was born on January 26, 1923 in Langdondale, daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Mary C. (Kushto) Kline. On July 1, 1946 in Baltimore, she married Lester H. Gunkel and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1976. She is survived by two sisters; Theda Kutz of O’Fallon, Ill, and Betty Mitchell of Harrisburg, a brother William C. Kline and wife Grace of Bedford, also 14 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard D. Kline.
Mrs. Gunkel was a member of Bedford Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Broad Top High School in Defiance, in 1939, and attended Strayers Business College in Baltimore for two years, while employed at the Social Security Administration in Baltimore. Before moving to this area in 1996, she was a member of Christ Lutheran
Church in Baltimore. She was a member of NARFE, AARP, and Senior Citizens in Bedford. She was an avid bridge player and a league bowler for many years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Raymond Short officiating. Burial at Yellow Creek Reform Cemetery in Hopewell. Friends will be received on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
