Lois A. (Van Horn) Wagoner

October 17, 1924 — March 25, 2016

Lois A. Wagoner, 91, of Bedford, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at Carrol's Rest Home. She was born on October 17, 1924, in Everett, a daughter of the late Marshall and Alma (Baker) Van Horn. On June 30, 1946, in Snake Spring, she married John H. Wagoner and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2012. She is survived by three sons: John E. Wagoner and wife Nina of Fort Ashby, WV, Paul A. Wagoner, and wife Kathie of Everett, and George W. Wagoner of Clearville, five grandchildren:  Garth Wagoner, Paula Emerick and husband Richie, Mandy Nave and husband Bryan, Tanner Wagoner and wife Kelly, and Caleb Wagoner, a step-grandchild,  Lindy Jo; eight great-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Richard D. Van Horn, and wife Dottie of Erie.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and George Van Horn.

Lois was a member of the Knobbly Road Baptist Church in Short Gap, WV and the Bedford United Methodist Church. She graduated from Everett Area High School in 1941 and then graduated from the Cumberland Memorial School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for over 40 years at various hospitals in PA and MD. She enjoyed horseback trail riding, farming, gardening, and taking car rides.  Family meant a lot to her, and she enjoyed the time spent with them.  In the last years she enjoyed her care at Carrol’s Rest Home and her friends she made, especially Mary Holler.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Jim Miller officiating.  Burial at Wagoner Farm Family Cemetery, in Fort Ashby, WV.  Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Lois’s name to Carrol’s Rest Home, 7741 Lincoln Highway, Bedford, PA 15522 or Grane Hospice, 106 Zee Plaza, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
